portrayed by example of the Industrial Workers of the World in New York City
MainstreamUnions weren't able to stop the worsening of living and working conditions in Germany over the past few decades - and did not want to. The efforts of left and radical unions, however, have not been particularly successfull either. Thus a common opinion among leftists in
Germany is that it's just really impossible to organize yourself and your coworkers within the low-wage-sectors. That, as a matter of fact, is far from being true. Taking a look at the endeavours of the member-run union IWW in the United States of America, and even in
Germany, will provide powerful counter examples. We will present and discuss various ways of organizing in that sector and, hopefully, inspire to carry that spirit back into your own workplace.
